Tuesday 5th June is World Environment Day. Kent Green Party is urging people in Kent and Medway to mark this day by changing to a safe energy supplier.

Dr Hazel Dawe, Chair of Kent Green Party, comments: "We can all force the pace of change to safer energy technologies. We can all help to increase investment in safe renewable energy sources like windfarms by switching to suppliers which do not use fossil fuels or nuclear energy. Windfarms planned off Kent will create employment especially in Thanet. The UK only has about 4.5% of its electricity coming from these sources at present, due to a lack of leadership by Government since the oil crises of the 1970s. Most other EU states have far more: Austria, for example, will have 78% of its electricity from hydro-electric power and windfarms during 2008."

"The Kent Energy Centre can provide advice and there are variety of websites providing advice on switching. Let's all show the Government some leadership since it's so-called energy gap is about its own failures to promote energy conservation and renewable energy since 1997."
