Green Party members in the South East Region have picked a list of 10 candidates for the European Elections due in June 2009. Hazel and Steve Dawe, respectively Chair and Press Officer of Kent Green Party have been chosen to represent Kent on their Party’s list(1). Hazel Dawe said:
‘I am very pleased to be selected amongst such a high quality group of candidates. My experience of teaching European Law and serving as a European candidate on previous occasions will undoubtedly help me to fulfill this role. Europe has a powerful role to offer in supporting human rights and making poverty history within Europe and in the world. However, Europe must also take responsibility for its arms trading with dictatorships and stop engaging in this trade which adds to human misery worldwide.”
Steve Dawe said:
“Europe has a wide variety of effects on our lives. The Green Party supports referenda in the UK on the new European Treaty and believes British people are also entitled to a vote on membership of the EU. We support the EU setting social entitlements and environmental standards but want to see the environmentally damaging and costly Common Agricultural Policy and Common Fisheries Policy both scrapped.”
