Kent Green Party objects to the creation of a new Junction 10A on the M20. This proposal is now the subject of a Highways Agency consultation. This proposed road building would permit a massive expansion of Ashford’s housing on to greenfield sites. The consultation ignores the current state of the housing market, which is in steep decline. Steve Dawe(1) comments:
“Kent Green Party opposes further expansion of Ashford. We object to the loss of agricultural land to road building, and to any building on greenfield sites. The Highways Agency, and the Government, have ignored objections to expansion placed by people in Ashford. They are also choosing to ignore the steep decline in the sale of homes at present. Since 9 out of 10 homes are built by the private sector, they are hardly going to build homes for which there are no buyers.
“Ashford Borough Council should only be obliged to meet local housing demand. The Government should be directing development into the poorest parts of the country, not the driest. Further expansion of Ashford would require a new Motorway junction to allow access to large greenfield site areas for house building. We urge people to object by filling in the Highways Agency questionnaire at:
