PHOTO OPPORTUNITY: AT THE BANDSTAND, 12.30

Kent Green Party will be leafleting Ashford’s town centre on Saturday 29th November to draw attention to the continuing problems in how we treat and use animals in the UK. Steve Dawe comments:
“It is appropriate, near Christmas, to remind everyone that pets are commitments and not just commodities like toys or clothes. No individual or household should take on new pets unless it is very clear that they are going to be taken care of in the long term.
“The Green Party has wider concerns about how we are using animals. There are still far too many questionable medical experiments on animals, involving 2.5 million animals each year. We are very much opposed to factory farming and live exports. We would try to make sure meat consumption is reduced by making sure good vegetarian and vegan alternatives are available in schools and in workplaces.
“Decades of over-development in Kent has meant under-investment in our towns, but over-investment in housing which damages habitats in the countryside. This reduces biodiversity and creates areas where species are seriously depleted or ‘marooned’ by development.
“Finally, we would seek new legislation to bring all forms of hunting and animal cruelty to an end.”
