EUROPEAN ELECTIONS: GREEN PARTY VOTE SURGE

The Green Party vote rose dramatically throughout Kent in the European Elections. Thanet took first place with 17% of voters choosing Green. Steve Dawe comments:
“We are very pleased with our surge in votes in these elections. Our national vote increased by over 43%, and some districts in Kent saw massive increases in Green votes. The Green Party beat Labour in 8 out of the 13 localities and beat the Liberal Democrats in 6 localities.

“We beat Labour in the South East Region. To repeat, the Green Party beat the Party which is currently in Government in the South East Region, and did the same in the South West Region as well. Precisely, the results were as follows:

These results below show the Green Party votes and percentages in each of the localities in Kent in the three European Elections of 1999, 2004 and 2009. For 2009, the additional issue of whether the Green Party beat one of the three major parties is mentioned. The percentage given to the Green Party varies from 17% in Thanet to 7.16% in Medway.
