Kent Greens have welcomed the decision to stop the Kent International Gateway development. They have hailed the success as triumph of local campaigning over the interests of big business. They have called for AXA to fund environmentally beneficial projects rather than ones that destroy the environment.

Stuart Jeffery, Campaigns Officer, Kent Green Party: "This is a very welcome decision. Big business cannot be allowed to run roughshod over the will of local people or destroy such a beautiful and useful rural area.

"Let us hope that this matter has been put to rest now and that AXA turn their attention to funding projects which will reduce the impact on the environment rather than destroying it. There is a real need for funding of renewable energy, energy reduction and to help local economies, AXA should really think about investing in projects which will help us now and in the future."
