FEARS THAT VESTAS MAY PULL OUT OF 2000 JOB DEVELOPMENT ON SHEPPEY

Vestas are threatening to pull out of investment in 2000 wind turbine jobs on Sheppey, unless the Government shows a stronger commitment to wind power and renewable energy (1). Helen Miller comments for Swale Green Party:

"If the Government does not provide stronger support to wind power over 2000 skilled well-paid jobs could be lost to the area. With Vestas threatening to pull out of its Sheppey wind turbine factory proposals, the loss to our area could be immense.

We ask Swale's MPs, its Council, and Kent County Council, to take action to ensure the Vestas investment in green jobs for Swale goes ahead. It is very unhelpful that 100 Conservative MPs are opposing wind power when other options, especially nuclear, have higher long term costs and do not reduce greenhouse gas emissions."
