Kent Green Party has launched Greening Kent: the Kent Green Party manifesto for the County Elections being held in May(1). Stuart Jeffery, Chair of Kent Green Party, comments:
“The Green Party has consistently offered the best alternative policies of any Party in Kent to the Conservatives. We commit ourselves to work to undo the comprehensive failures of Kent County Council under the Conservatives, in areas of clear inadequacy like over-priced public transport, excessive class sizes in schools, very poor walking and cycling policies and under investment in efficient, safe energy technologies. Our policies are covered by three themes:
  • Ending poverty, increasing employment opportunities and improving services
  • Making public transport, walking and cycling the most favoured means of transport
  • Conserving and enhancing the natural environment for tourism, forestry and biodiversity  for future generations

“Here in Kent, we have the largest ‘rotten borough’ in the UK. The Conservatives have been in power in Kent since 1889 almost without interruption. The results have been a catastrophic record of over-development of warehousing, badly planned road schemes, under-development of essential services for the elderly and the young and a persistent record of creating and maintaining low quality secondary schools because of an education system divided by class through the Kent Test.
“A transfer of power and resources to our County from the national Government is essential, as part of a process of moving the tax burden from those who can least afford it to those individuals and corporations most capable of bearing it. As our General Election manifesto demonstrated, we can pay off the Deficit and maintain and improve essential services  but only the Green Party is likely to make this happen.”
