Campaigners against the export of live farm animals from the Port of Dover will be taking their protest to the Kent County Show on 12, 13 & 14 July. The campaigners will be setting up camp on public land adjacent to
One of the campaigners, Councillor Ian Driver, said "The Kent County Show
is a showcase for the county's agricultural industry and whilst most
people working in agriculture care deeply about the welfare of animals,
some of those associated with animal transport operate in an extremely
cruel and barbaric way. This is why we will be leafleting the show to
expose the nasty, brutal side of Kent's agricultural industry which is
hidden from public view."
Thanet Green Party Councillor, Ian Driver, who is also attending the
protest added: "Opposition to the export of live farm animals from Kent's
ports is growing fast. The RSPCA and Compassion in World Farming are
supporting our campaign as is Green Party Euro MEP Keith Taylor and
Ramsgate and Dover MPs Laura Sandys and Charlie Elphicke. We are planning
a peaceful protest and will be protesting lawfully on public open land.
We do not expect Kent County Show employees, or the Kent Police to
attempt to remove us."
